Effects of Packing Materials and Transportation Time on Quality of Cut Rose ¢¥ Mary de Vor ¢¥

Abstract
This study was conducted to clarify the effects of packing materials and transportation time on quality of cut rose (Rosa hybrida L.) ¢¥Mary de Vor¢¥. Cut roses were packed with corrugated cardboard box (CCB) alone, with polyethylene film (PEF) lining, and with wet newspaper (WNP) contained PEF lining. Then cut roses were simulated transit for 12, 24, 48 hours at 25¡É. Vaselife was most prolonged at packing of cut roses with CCB + PEF + WNP in all treatments and also flower opening was promoted and bent neck decreased, followed by packing cut roses with CCB+PEF Packing cut roses with CCB was the worst. In general, the keeping quality and vaselife appeared to increase as transportation time was short. However, cut rose maintained with CCB packing alone showed a greater variation in vaselife according to the difference in transportation time as compared to cut rose maintained with CCB+PEF or CCB+PEF+WNP packing.
